Authorized Person and Silica

This will be a full day of training. The morning session will be either Authorized Person or Silica. The afternoon session will be the opposite course.

The Authorized Person course offers an awareness of the issues involved with fall protection. A focus on the best practices in fall protection and the need to protect workers at height highlights this informative training course. Participants are introduced to the regulations and standards governing fall protection as well as the components of a fall protection system including body support, anchorages, connectors and rescue. Upon successful completion of this course the student will receive a certificate recognizing they have completed the training required to meet OSHA and ANSI requirements as an Authorized Person.

The Silica half-day course will provide initial training for persons designated by their construction management to act as the Silica Competent Person for their site(s) or who want to learn more about the role of the competent person under the new OSHA Construction Regulation (29 CFR 1926.1153) for Respirable Crystalline Silica. Participants will acquire knowledge through lecture and real-world interactive examples that will help prepare them to comply with the new silica standard.

  • OSHA Regulations relating to fall protection
  • Local governing regulations relating to fall protection
  • Traditional fall protection (e.g. handrails, guardrails, etc.)
  • Fall restraint systems
  • Fall arrest systems (including anchors, body support, connecting components and the importance of a rescue plan)
  • Understanding the main elements of 29 CFR 1926.1153
  • Understanding regulations and applying them to jobsite applications
  • Defining the roles, responsibilities, expectations and limitations of both the silica competent person and a qualified person within their program
  • Suggested skills and capabilities for the Silica Competent Person per the American Industrial Hygiene Association White Paper

  • Elements of an exposure plan
